Big 12 Championships almost underway
The Big 12 Wrestling Tournament is just a couple hours away from starting here, with some of the nation's top teams ready to square off. Iowa State comes in ranked third in the country, Nebraska fourth, Missouri fifth, Oklahoma State 12th and Oklahoma 13th.
Missouri has already qualified three wrestlers for the NCAA Tournament in two weeks in juniors Nick Marable, Max Askren and Mark Ellis. Those wrestlers will still have to show up today though, as today's matches will play a major role in seeding at the NCAA Tournament.
For the other seven Missouri wrestlers, they will have to earn their spot in national's by earning a place today. Depending on how tough the competition is in each weight class, the more spots at nationals it has. For example, 149 is a weak weight for the Big 12, so only two spots have been allocated. At 157 pounds though, four spots have been allocated.
There will be several tight and competitive matches throughout the day here. The Maneater will continue blogging with recaps and analysis at the end of each round.
