Highlights from Fashion Week in Paris and Milan

Fashion Week in Paris and Milan is blowing up. Here are some of the highlights from across the (European) globe.

Paris Modernized boxing attire? Check. Skirts? Check. Zombies? You’ve got it. If there is one rule to follow when attending a Jean Paul Gaultier show — expect the unexpected. Gaultier tailors to the tee and tells a mysterious story (or stories, in this case) that takes the viewer into another time, another place. Okay, so maybe the amount of guys wearing skirts could be limited to the Scottish (and Bono). My input is this: maybe Everlast is more professional for boxing, but I would sure as hell ditch the Everlast baggy shorts for some Gaultier goods any day.

The French know how to fit and tailor. Dries Van Noten premiered Thursday during Paris Fashion Week, creating a striking but neutrally toned presence on the runway. Vibrant navies and khakis (yes, it’s possible), interesting silhouettes and lush outerwear donned with a contrasting piping. Very luxe, very French. Oui, monsieur.

Marc Jacobs must have been tastefully bipolar while creating this season’s pre-fall 2010 collection for Louis Vuitton. Expect silky, but form-fitting frocks, ballerina-esque dresses and one staple: bunny ears/hair bows (guesses to what the hell those things are?). Notice the two '80s-looking flame red outfits that slid in. Jacobs never ceases to impress --and make us wonder.

Milano

Words cannot begin to describe the polished class of Trussardi 1911’s fall/winter 2010 collection. Tweed, red velvet, slick oxfords, plaid. Impeccable fit. Need I go on?

Oscar de la Renta knows how to make a woman sexy. Beautiful prints, exotic yet rich fall neutrals, high-waisted pants and sexy, smoky eyes play a key in this collection. De la Renta knows how to do proportions and how to make his women look bold, sexy and seductive.
