UConn advances to Elite Eight
Purdue guard Chris Kramer and forward Robbie Hummel look at the scoreboard disappointed with their loss at the end of the NCAA Sweet Sixteen basketball game between the University of Connecticut and Purdue Thursday, March 26, 2009 in the University of Phoenix stadium in Glendale, Ariz. UConn defeated Purdue 72-60.
Connecticut took down Purdue 72-60 in the first game of day here in Glendale. That means if Missouri can upset No. 2 Memphis tonight, it would go on to play UConn on Saturday.
After watching the Huskies play against Purdue, I think they actually matchup better for the Tigers than Memphis does. Yes, Calhoun's club is filled with freak athletes that are preparing for their NBA careers, but many of those players looked gassed against the Boilermakers.
7'3" Hasheem Thabeet is an incredible force down low, but Missouri handled the nation's best post player in Blake Griffin earlier this season. Thabeet seemed to get worn down quickly against a Purdue team that moves like a freight train compared to Missouri's stealth jet.
I think beating Memphis tonight will actually be a greater challenge for Missouri than a potential Elite Eight matchup against the Huskies. Memphis plays so similarly to Missouri and has more natural talent, while Anderson's super-fast system could really rattle UConn's athletes.
