Presidential candidate John McCain called for Republicans and Democrats to unite to fix the economy this morning at a rally in Independence.

"Following Sept. 11, our national leaders came together at a time of crisis," McCain said. "Now, with this measure we have another chance to come together to prove that Washington is once again capable of leading this country."

In the speech, McCain said he supports low taxes, spending discipline and open markets.

"I believe in rewarding hard work and letting people keep the fruits of their labor," he said.

McCain, along with Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., will travel to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday night to vote in the Senate on a revised version of a financial rescue plan.

Obama also held a rally to discuss the economy today in La Crosse, Wis.
