Obama coming to campus
Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama will be on campus on Thursday at the Mel Carnahan Quadrangle. No tickets are required to attend, but the campaign is urging attendees to RSVP on their Web site.
The gates will open at 7:30 p.m., and the event is set to start at 9:30 p.m.
The Illinois senator is the last of a long line of notable political personalities that have visited MU and Columbia this election season. Bill and Chelsea Clinton were on campus in the spring to drum up support for Hillary during the primaries, and since the start of the general election, Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean, former Secretary of State Madeline Albright and Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden have appeared to voice their support for Obama.
While the Republicans haven't had as big names appearing in Columbia, Republican presidential nominee John McCain was in town briefly last week between stops in St. Charles and Belton.
