Nixon spending, receiving more than Hulshof

As the election season is approaching its close (signaling to politicians and journalists alike that a full night of sleep might soon be at hand), state and local candidates are moving around major greenbacks. With the help of first-time writer Jordan Elliot (look for her first story very soon!), Politics Watch has compiled some totals from the finance reports issued on Oct. 27, with some updates from the last few days thrown in there.

In the gubernatorial race, Attorney General Jay Nixon, the Democratic candidate, has outraised and outspent his Republican rival U.S. Rep. Kenny Hulshof for most of the race, and in the last few days, as the race gets down to the nitty-gritty (to use the vernacular of the peasantry).

On Oct. 27, when all Missouri candidates were required to submit finance reports, Nixon reported have more than $1.7 million on hand, and had $3.8 million since the last report, which was submitted by all candidates in the state on Oct. 15. In total, Nixon has spent more than $13 million on the race, and has received, more than $16 million.

Hulshof had $597,862.55 on hand on Oct. 27, and has spent $1.6 million since the last report, and has received $1 million. Since the beginning of his campaign, Hulshof has received $5.2 million and spent $4.9 million.

As of Wednesday, Nixon has received $437, 356.13 since the report was issued. This number was especially large because of contribution from the Missouri Democratic Party of over $300,000. Hulshof has received $30,348.

Your site was extremely interesting, especially since I was searching for thoughts on this subject last Thursday.
