AP results excites Nixon watch party
The Associated Press has called Jay Nixon the next governor of Missouri in its latest article.
The AP declared Nixon's win after surveying voters after they left polling places.
"There are still record lines at the polls and people are still casting their votes," Missouri Democratic Party spokesman Zac Wright said.
Despite Wright's statement, Nixon supporters think people at the polls are supporting Nixon.
"I was handing out campaign literature and people felt so strongly about him," Nixon supporter Dana Getz said.
Nixon's campaign is not letting itself become affected by the AP's article.
"We aren't taking anything for granted in this campaign," Wright said.
Regardless of the campaign's view, Nixon supporters are happy to support their candidate.
"I think everyone's excited," Getz said. "We've waited a long time."
Nixon campaign spokesman Oren Shur said the campaign is very optimistic.
"There is a clear energy to take the state in a new direction," Shur said. "The people of Missouri want change and with Jay Nixon, that's what they'll get.''
The Pageant event staff said they are expecting about 1,400 people to attend the watch party.
