Democrats voice support for Nixon
Jay Nixon's employees have turned out to support in the race for governor.
Assistant Attorney General Vanessa Brown said she thinks Nixon will make a good governor based on the type of boss he was.
"He's very compassionate on the issues," Brown said. "A lot of assistant attorney generals love working for him."
She said Nixon's concern for Missourians makes him the best candidate for governor.
"He's a real advocate of the people and he wants to do so much for the working class," Brown said.
Other Nixon supporters also feel his time as attorney general is helping him now.
"Being attorney general made him a likable candidate for governor," supporter Katie Bradley said.
In addition to his time as attorney general, Nixon's economic policies earned him supporters.
Supporter Ron Inman said he thinks Nixon's policies are good. Inman said Nixon will help get the economy working again.
"I think he'll bring jobs back to Missouri," he said.
As an employer himself, Inman said he is trying to keep jobs for his employees. He said that is why he supports Nixon.
25 percent of voters who voted for Sen. John McCain also voted for Nixon.
"Nixon's message of getting Missouri's economy moving again, lowering health care costs and lowering the cost to go to college is a message that really plays everywhere whether you're a Democrat or a Republican, regardless of which part of the state you live in," Missouri Democratic Party spokesman Jack Cardetti said.
