Early thoughts from students

Around the polls at MU, voters said it seems like everything is running fairly smoothly.

At the Life Sciences Center, the lines are less than 15 minutes long. Lucy McIntyre, an Obama supporter, was pleasantly surprised about the efficiency of the polling place.

“It was fine,” McIntyre said.  “It didn’t take as long as we thought it would.”

But the lines were significantly longer at Memorial Union, though most voters said the lines moved quickly and the machines operated smoothly.

“It only took 45 minutes for me to vote,” junior Lindsey Webster said. “Everything was fairly smooth, but I’ve heard people waiting in line for three hours.”

On both sides, the enthusiasm seemed fairly high.

“I was enthusiastic to vote,” Webster said. “On each side, there is a minority, plus this is the first time I’ve been able to vote.”

Meanwhile, Archie Hamilton of Columbia brought his son along with him to vote.

“It is a historic process and it is good for him to see how the Democratic process is done,” Hamilton said.

I voted at the Reynolds Alumni Center, and I didn't have to wait AT ALL. There was a short line for the electronic ballot, so I chose to vote by paper. I was probably in and out within ten minutes. Props to all the election day volunteers on campus! :)
