Excitement grows at Obama watch party
Election results continue to roll in at the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center. As more states are called for Obama, the excitement in the crowd grows.
“I thought the race would be extremely close,” MU student Aver Yakubu said. “I’m happy that it isn’t.”
Although there was some palpable concern in the crowd as McCain clinched Texas’ 34 electoral votes, those in the attendance still have faith in Obama’s ability to win.
“I got a little nervous after they announced Texas and Mississippi,” freshman Jenee Duncan said. “But I still have faith that Obama is going to take it. There is a big difference in the electoral votes.”
The crowd is waiting anxiously for the results from Missouri, hoping that the state’s electoral votes will go to Obama.
“Missouri is close,” Duncan said. “The gap is closing. You never know, it’s still up in the air. But I believe wholeheartedly that Obama will win.”
