Hopes high for Obama at Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center
As CNN called Pennsylvania for Obama, a cheer echoed through the watch party at the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center.
“Right now, I’m pleased,” MU student Darius Whitaker said. “Obama has 102 electoral votes. I think he has a good chance to win. “
MU graduate student Brandon Pope, who earlier in the evening said Pennsylvania was one of the states Obama needed to win, was pleased with the results.
“Winning Pennsylvania’s step one,” Pope said.
He also said Pennsylvania is an indicator for what will happen in the election, and if Virginia and Florida follow Pennsylvania, it would be good for Obama.
After watching Obama lose South Carolina, freshman Jenee Duncan said she was relieved by Obama’s victory in Pennsylvania.
“The biggest upset of the night so far was when South Carolina went to McCain,” Duncan said.
However, she remained positive when it was reported Obama had won Pennsylvania.
