Luetkemeyer arrives at watch party
Blaine Luetkemeyer, the candidate for Missouri's 9th Congressional District arrived at a watch party held in his honor at the Stoney Creek Inn in Columbia at 7:47 pm.
Received with applause, Luetkemeyer was interviewed by numerous television outlets.
Before his arrival, however, his supporters spoke about his strengths as a candidate.
“Blaine’s a common person,” George Bailey, a Waynesville dentist and childhood friend of Luetkemeyer. “He’s a businessman. He’ll think for the people, not for special interests.”
Bailey also praised Luetkemeyer, a Republican, for his ability to work with the new Democratic majority in Missouri.
Also in attendance was Rick Doerhof of the Lake of the Ozarks. Like Bailey, Doerhof knew Luetkemeyer during the candidate’s childhood in St. Elizabeth.
A health care professional like Bailey, Doerhof shared Luetkemeyer’s views on medicine.
“We share common principles,” Doerhof said. “We have to do something about non-competitive health care.”
Doerhof said Lutekemeyer, whose mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, is someone who understands long-term health care.
“[Health care] is something he knows,” he said. “He will look out for what Medicare and Medicaid does.”
Luetkemeyer, along with 19th District state senator candidate Kurt Schaefer, will address their supporters when the election results arrive.
That time, according to Luetkemeyer spokesperson Paul Sloca, could be anywhere between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.
Currently, with 18 percent of precincts, Luetkemeyer is leading his Democratic rival Judy Baker 50 percent to 47 percent, according to the Missouri Secretary of State.
