McCain concedes

Sen. John McCain, R, Ariz., conceded the race for the presidency to Democrat Barack Obama.

At roughly 10:15 p.m., Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, conceded the presidential election, speaking to supporters in his hometown of Phoenix, Ariz. With vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin by his side, McCain stressed the importance of Americans, both Republicans and Democrats, supporting the newly elected President Barack Obama, of Illinois.

Despite a few boos and jeers from some supporters, the crowd applauded when McCain mentioned the history voters had made with the election of America's first black president.
