If you're in Columbia for the winter break, you might have woken up Dec. 27 in the dark.  After severe weather hit the area early that morning, some parts of the city were left without electricity.

An official from Columbia’s  Public Works Department could not comment on the exact number of city residents without power.  She said: “It’s everywhere.”

City of Columbia Power and Light crews are currently working to restore power to Columbia’s residents. The area is expected to see more severe weather as early as this afternoon.

Columbia is under a severe storm watch until noon.  The area is expected to see severe storms accompanied by very high winds, according to the National Weather Service.
