McCaskill will speak at Dem convention

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., will speak at the opening day of the Democratic National Convention on Aug. 25, the Democratic National Convention Committee announced in a release yesterday.
According to the release, McCaskill and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi of California will speak late into the program about the "values" of the Democratic Party and "the efforts of to take America in a new direction to reach out to all voters, in particular new voters, Independents, and Republicans, to get the county moving in the right direction at this critical time.
Pelosi has been named the Permanent Chair of the 2008 Convention.
The committee has named the covention's theme "One Nation", and the opening day will feature a tribute to U.S. Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., who has worked in the Senate for over 45 years and is currently battling cancer. Maya Soetero-Ng, the sister of Democratic presidential hopeful U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and Craig Robinson, Obama's wife Michelle's older brother, will also speak at the event.
