Still gets nod from Spence, Pund
Former MU spokeswoman Mary Still, the Democratic nominee in the race for state representative of the 25th District, annouced today that she has received endorsements from her primary competitors.
According to a release from the Still camp, Bob Pund, a legislative advocate for disability issues, and Sean Spence, a political and business consultant who works as a part-time aide for State Auditor Susan Montee, endorsed Still at a Muleskinner luncheon on Friday.
"Both candidates ran professional and positive campaigns and I welcome this united effort to continue progressive leadership in the 25th district," Still said.
Still won the race with 55 percent of the vote. Pund and Spence came in at 15 percent and 30 percent, repsectively.
Pund said Still "should be commended for running a positive campaign on the issues."
"Even though the election did not come out personally the way I wanted it to, I am confident that Mary Still shares my values and believes in having a level playing field for everyone," he said. "She will work hard to ensure that everyone has access to affordable health care, a quality education and the chance to live the American dream."
"I've personally watched Mary Still serve this state and community for nearly twenty years now," Spence said. "She has contributed so much and will be an excellent addition to the long line of progressive leaders we have enjoyed in the 25th district."
Still is facing Republican Ryan Asbridge, a U.S. Navy intelligence officer, for the seat. Still said the candidates are planning to face off at a town hall on Oct. 16.
