Baker looks for voters, interns at Rock Bridge High School

State Rep Judy Baker, D-Columbia appeared yesterday at a Rock Bridge High School Young Democrats meeting to reach out for potential volunteers and interns in her race for the 9th Congressional District seat.

"We need everyone with hearts like yours to get involved and stay involved," Baker said.

During the appearance, she spoke for about 10 minutes and allocated 15 minutes for a question and answer session.  There were around 30 people at the meeting.

Baker also mentioned her speech earlier in the day at a town hall meeting for Sen. Joe Biden.

"It was absolutely awesome," Baker said. "We are absolutely pumped about this election."

Young Democrats president Ana Boettcher said it is helpful for students to be able to hear politicians like this appearance.

"It was really important to show students that politicians are real people too," Boettcher said.

Boettcher stressed the importance of groups like the Young Democrats in spreading the word about Bakers candidacy.

"Getting her name out there and spreading awareness is what we can do as a club," said Boettcher.

Baker's appearance inspired at least one high schooler to get involved. Rock Bridge student Art Scott said he was going to get involved with the club.

"With this being an election year, I definitely wanted to get involved," Scott said.

Baker faces former Missouri Tourism Director Blaine Luetkemeyer in the Nov. 5 election.
