Mo. lawmaker resigns amid sexual assault charges

According to an Associated Press report released on Sept. 9, State Rep. Scott Muschany, R-Frontenac, resigned his position in the House after pleading not guilty to charges of deviate sexual assault before a Cole County Circuit Court judge.

The GOP lawmaker waived the right to a formal arraignment on Tuesday in Cole County, where he was indicted by a grand jury for having "deviate sexual intercourse" with the 14-year-old daughter of a state employee, according to a report released by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

The two-term representative said in a letter to House Speaker Rod Jetton that he would not seek a third term and was resigning his seat to focus on his family and his legal defense.
