Graham to pursue Senate Minority Leader, turns down Schaeffer's requests for debate

State Sen. Chuck Graham, D-Columbia, has turned down Republican election opponent Kurt Schaeffer's challente to a series of debates about farming and agriculture, energy and environment, crime prevention, University of Missouri funding and ethics reform.

“Chuck Graham is obviously afraid of meeting for a debate on the issues because he has nothing to run on. “ Schaeffer spokesman Paul Sloca said. “The real losers are the people of the 19th District. Chuck Graham’s outright rejection of this debate should come as no surprise in light of his well-publicized public failure in the veto override and the fact that the Senate Majority Leader publically mocked his effectiveness. Someone asked Senate Majority Leader Coleman about Chuck Graham being the minority leader and she laughed.”

Though Graham will, as of now, not be participating in these debates, he is already making plans for after his possible victory in this election.

On Sept. 10, Graham announced his plans to run for Democratic Floor Leader if he is reelected. This would put him against Senator Victor Callahan, a Democrat from Jackson County.

Although current minority floor leader Maida Coleman has openly voiced full support for Callahan, Graham remains hopeful.

Graham could not be reached at this time for a comment.
