Recount dismissed; Koster official Dem candidate
The Associated Press reported today that State Sen. Chris Koster, D-Harrisonville, is the official Democratic candidate for Missouri Attorney General after a lawsuit calling for a recount of the Aug. 5 primary election was dismissed.
The lawsuit, filed by State Rep. Margaret Donnelly, D-Richmond Heights, after her 780-vote loss to Koster, called for a recount of all votes, and the inclusion of rejected absentee and provisional ballots.
The margin of votes separating Donnelly and Koster was small enough to enable the use of a state law that allows a request for a recount by the losing candidate when that margin is less than one percentage point.
Koster will face Republican candidate Senate President Pro Tem Michael Gibbons in the general election in November.
