Baker ad controversial

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee recently released a new advertisement against gubernatorial candidate Blaine Luetkemeyer on behalf of state Rep. Judy Baker, who is on the DCCC's Red to Blue program.

However, the Luetkemeyer Campaign has taken issue with the ad, which says Luetkemeyer, a former state representative, supports the privatization of Social Security.

The ad uses as its source a couple of articles from July: a Maneater article, which has since been clarified, and a Columbia Daily Tribune article, both of which are about a primary forum.

Luetkemeyer in fact does not support privatization of social security, but has said that he might favor a bill that would allow people to invest a portion of their social security funds.

"Blaine has never supported privatization," said spokesman Paul Sloca.  "But he was open to the idea of looking at personal health savings accounts.  There was a clear distinction here.  Privatization means exclusivity, whereas personal savings accounts allows everyone."

The Blaine campaign released a statement yesterday saying that the ad had been pulled by KRCG-TV and KMIZ-TV

However, Ryan Rudominer of the DCCC said the ad will run on schedule.

"The DCCC IE's ad about Blaine Luetkemeyer’s Social Security privatization scheme, which would risk Missourian’s retirement on the Wall Street roller coaster, is currently airing on schedule," he said. "The very last thing Missourians deserve during these touch economic times is Blaine Leutkemeyer who strongly backs the failed economic policies of the last eight years."
