Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden speaks at a town hall style meeting on Tuesday morning at Columbia's Activity & Recreation Center. After his hour-long speech, Biden answered questions from several members of the audience.

Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., made his first appearance this morning in Missouri since receiving the vice presidential nod at the Columbia Activity and Recreation Center.

About 1,500 tickets were distributed for the event in a matter of hours. Some audience members waited in line since 6 a.m. just to get a seat.

Many Missouri politicians were in attendance, including Rep. Judy Baker, D-Columbia, who introuced Biden.

"Barack Obama and Joe Biden know what we need to get Missouri and America back on track," Baker said.

Biden spoke for more than an hour about the Democratic ticket's plans for change.

"All John McCain is changing is the name at the top of Bush's policies," he said. "All that will do is keep America shortchanged."

Biden concluded his appearance by taking questions from audience members. His campaign stop in Columbia came just three days after Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean visited the MU campus.
