Luetkemeyer gets committee appointments

The AP reported today that newly-elected U.S. Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, D-Mo., has been appointed to two House commitees.

Luetkemeyer, who beat former Rep. Judy Baker, a Columbia Democrat, for representative of Missouri's Ninth Congresional District will serve on the House Committee on Small Business and the House Committee on Agriculture.

Before serving a brief stint as Missouri's Tourism Director, Luetkemeyer served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 1999-2005. While there, he was appointed chair of the House Financial Services Committee and, in 2000, he was elected to serve as the House Republican Caucus Chairman.

Luetkemeyer owns a small business, Luetkemeyer Insurance Agency, which is based in his hometown of St. Elizabeth, Mo., where his family owns and operates the Bank of St. Elizabeth.

This isn't the first time the freshman Congressman has made a few headlines since starting work with the U.S. House of Representatives this week. On Tuesday, Luetkemeyer sponsored legislation to stop automatic pay raises for members of Congress. For a release from his office regarding the issue, click here.
