Mo. House speaker announces committee leadership
House Speaker Ron Richard, R-Joplin, announced his nominations for the leadership positions of the Missouri House of Representatives' 50 committees and special committees. Click here for the list.
Near the bottom of the list, you might notice that one lone Democrat, Rep. Ted Hoskins, D-Berkeley, was given a leadership position on one committee, the Special Committee on Urban Issues.
Rep. Stephen Webber, D-Columbia, has been assigned to the prestigious Rules Committee, which is responsible for reviewing bills after they have been approved by a committee and before they are debated upon by the full House. The committee also has the power to make restrictions on how much debate time a bill gets on the floor, and determines where bills are placed on the calendar. And, as you might have guessed, they also determine the rules of the body, which is proposed in legislation.
Senate President Pro Tem Charlie Shields, R-St. Joseph, told me in an interview on Monday that the Senate would be tackling committee assignments next week.
