Missouri legislature rejects pay raises

The General Assembly has passed a bill that rejects a recommendation for a pay increase for elected officials.

The recommendation for pay increase came from the Citizen's Commission on Compensation for Elected Officials, an independent board established in the Missouri Constitution to recommend salaries for elected officials, judges and members of the legislature.

According to the bill text, the commission recommended a pay increase of $2,500 to the Speaker of the House, the President Pro Tem of the Senate and the Chief Justice of the MIssouri Supreme Court.

It also recommended a $1,500 increase for the Speaker Pro Tempore of the House and for each associate circuit judge.

The House passed it's rejection of the pay raises on Monday, and the Senate passed the measure with a 32-1 vote.

The General Assembly was given the recommendation last year as well, but decided that the commission was inadequately prepared to make its decision.
