Donnelly will head Health and Senior Services

The three Democratic contenders for attorney general in the last election have found a place in the state government this year.

Today, Gov.-elect Jay Nixon announced his intent to appoint state Rep. Margaret Donnelly, D-Richmond Heights, as director of Health and Senior Services. Donnelly has been in the house since 2002, and has served on the Budget Committee, as well as several health-related committees, such as the Appropriations Subcommittee for Health and Senior Services, Mental Health and Social Services and the Joint Committee on MO Health Net.

She also served on the Medicaid Reform Commission.

You might remember Donnelly from a tight three-way race for the Democratic nomination to run for attorney general. One of her opponents, Former Rep. Jeff Harris, was appointed to the Nixon administration on Monday, and her other opponent, former Sen. Chris Koster, won the nomination and eventually the race.

Koster beat Donnelly by less than one percent of the vote, which led to a recount that Donnelly eventually lost.
