Dems target the 9th for robo calls

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has begun to conduct automated calls in the districts of Republicans that voted against the stimulus package.

Missouri's 9th Congressional District, which contains Columbia and is represented by GOP Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer, is on the list. That link also contains the script that is used for the calls.

This isn't the first time that the DCCC has taken aim at the freshman representative since Congress voted on the federal stimulus package. In a news release issued by the committee on Feb. 20, Luetkemeyer is called "two-faced", and it is stated that the people of Missouri can see through his "hypocrisy."

In an e-mail message, DCCC Midwestern Region spokeswoman Gabby Adler said Luetkemeyer's district was targeted because he "turned his back" on the people of the district by voting against the stimulus package.

"The people of Missouri cannot afford to have a Representative that will gladly just say no to the largest tax cut in history, new jobs, and critical investments in the local economy," Adler stated.

In an e-mail message, Luetkemeyer spokesman Paul Sloca responded to the attacks with the following:

"The fact of the matter is that 49 percent of the people who have contacted our office have said no to the spending plan and the other 51 percent have said 'hell no.' People understand that we cannot borrow and spend our way back to prosperity by heaping more debt on our children and grandchildren. Blaine supported an alternative proposal that put more money back into people's pockets, but that plan was rejected by the liberals in Congress. If given the opportunity, Blaine would cast votes against the Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid spending package."
