Date for the State of the Union address announced
A date has been chosen for President Obama's State of the Union address. According to a release from the White House Office of the Press Secretary, the date and time has been set for Jan. 27 at 9 p.m.
The speech, which will be given before a joint session of Congress, will be nationally televised and will be streamed live on the White House Web site.
Presidents use the State of the Union address to outline their legislative priorities for the coming year. This will be the first State of the Union by President Obama. He did address a joint session of congress in February of 2009, but this was not an official State of the Union address.
