As the new year begins, City Manager Bill Watkins has issued a statement reviewing accomplishments in 2009.

"The best news is that we maintained core City services within available revenues," Watkins said in the statement. "Unlike other cities, counties and even states, we did not have to resort to drastic measures like layoffs or furloughs."

Listing more than 50 accomplishments, Watkins mentioned such things as Columbia's landfill receiving a bio-reactor permit and the opening of a new police training center.

The entire statement can be viewed on the [Columbia city Web site.] (http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/Public_Comm/Public_Information/Press_Releases/2009_dec31_year.php)
