Rock Bridge Memorial State Park will receive almost $60,000 in federal funding to build and renovate the Devil's Icebox Trail, according to a news release from the governor's office.

This money will be used to complete three sections of a large walking trail that forms a continuous loop. This section of the trail will feature an overlook and three informational panels.

“Trails are an ideal way for Missouri families to connect with one of our state’s greatest assets, our outdoor areas,” Gov. Jay Nixon said in the release. “The First Lady and I fully support ways to connect our citizens – particularly children – with all that Missouri has to offer in nature."

Rock Bridge, located outside of Columbia, has 15 miles of trails and covers 2,273 acres according to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Web site.

An additional $17,000 in funding is heading to Finger Lakes State Park, also in Boone County. This will finance parking lot improvements and a new emergency access road.

These projects are two of 18 in Missouri that received a total of $1,489,777 in federal funding.
