Rock Quarry and Nifong intersection signal lights to be removed
The Columbia Public Works Department declared the traffic signal at the intersection of Rock Quarry Road and Nifong Boulevard is to be removed, according to a news release Thursday.
Changing patterns of traffic, such as State Route AC moving from Nifong Alignment to the Grindstone Parkway Alignment, causes the Rock Quarry/Nifong intersection to no longer require a traffic signal.
The signal will be replaced with an all-way stop, the news release stated. New stop signs are being installed this week, though red lights will flash in all directions for about a week as the signs are being put up. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to bear extreme caution as they get used to the signal poles being removed, the release stated.
