NRA endorses Blunt in Columbia
The National Rifle Association endorsed Missouri Rep. Roy Blunt in his bid to win a seat in the U.S. senate during a press conference this morning in Columbia.
NRA executive vice president Wayne LaPierre said in a statement released after the event that Blunt, a Republican had earned the endorsement by consistently voting for positions supported by the NRA Political Victory Fund.
"Roy Blunt fights for our freedom," LaPierre said in the statement. "He earned the NRA-PVF endorsement by supporting our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage every time. Missouri's gun owners and hunters need that level of dedication in the U.S. Senate."
The Blunt campaign also announced the creation of Sportsmen for Roy Blunt, a group made up of one person from each of Missouri's 114 counties. Columbia resident Ted Kettlewell represents Boone County in the group and said in a Friday afternoon interview that
"I think he's the right guy for the job and he supports sportsmen's rights," he said.
