Tigers shock Aggies

Missouri's 3-0 rout of No. 6 Texas A&M on Sunday was more than just an upset. It was a stunner.

Heading into Sunday's game, Texas A&M had lost just once this season at the Aggie Soccer Stadium, against No. 2 North Carolina at the end of August.

The Aggies draw the biggest crowds in the Big 12, and 3,815 showed up for Sunday's game hoping Texas A&M could avenge last year's 3-2 overtime loss in Columbia that put the Tigers on the map.

But Missouri, now ranked as high as No. 18 (Soccer Times) in the national polls, improved to 5-2-0 in the Big 12 and gave Texas A&M its first back-to-back losses of the season. The Tigers are third in the Big 12 with 15 points, but Colorado and Texas A&M, the teams ahead of Missouri, have both played more conference games.

Senior forward Ashley Hamblin scored the Tigers' first goal and had an assist. Hamblin, who has started just one game this season, also tallied two assists in MU's 6-1 home win against Francis Marion last Friday. Soccer America named Hamblin to its Team of the Week.

The win was Missouri's second this year against a top-25 team, the other coming Oct. 3 against then-No. 15 Colorado.

With three conference games remaining, the Tigers control their destiny in the Big 12. If the Tigers win out, they will be the Big 12 regular season champions. MU hosts Baylor and No. 14 Texas this weekend and closes conference play at home against Kansas Oct. 31.
