Tigers shutout by California
Missouri's soccer team dropped its game against No. 21 California 3-0 Saturday afternoon in Berkeley, Calif.
MU (1-2) had two scoring chances in the game’s early stages. Freshman forward Kendra Collins’ shot from inside the penalty in the 8th minute was saved by Cal goalkeeper Gina Pellegrini. In the 25th minute, freshman forward Jessie Crabtree had her shot blocked, and sophomore midfielder Krista Kruse’s follow-up struck the crossbar.
Cal (3-1) opened the scoring in the 19th minute when forward Lisa Kevorkian’s shot from eight yards out was deflected by Missouri junior goalkeeper Tasha Dittamore but trickled into the net. The Golden Bears added goals in 37th and 86th minutes.
Junior forward Michelle Collins, who injured her hamstring during the Tigers’ victory vs. Auburn last Friday, did not play Saturday. As of last Saturday, junior forward Kristin Andrighetto had not passed MU’s required fitness test for starters. Andrighetto did not start again Saturday, and the preseason All-Big 12 teamer’s minutes have declined each game this season.
Missouri and California each had six shots on goal. Senior midfielder Mo Redmond had three herself.
After starting MU’s first two games, sophomore midfielder Krista Kruse came off the bench against Cal. Redmond was in the starting lineup for the first time this season after missing the opener. Kendra Collins played 58 minutes, the most by a MU freshman this season.
