Wrestling team upsets Cornell
The Missouri Tigers wrestling team upset the No. 2 team in the nation Sunday afternoon, the Cornell Big Red. Missouri won the final five matches to win the meet 18-14. While this is a major win for the program, it is not the biggest upset for Missouri under coach Brian Smith. In 2003, Missouri upset then No. 1 Oklahoma State 21-17.
Freshmen Dorian Henderson and Dominique Bradley both came up with big wins for the Tigers. Both unranked, Henderson defeated No. 16 Justin Kerber 3-2, while Bradley defeated No. 13 Zach Hammond 1-0. Missouri was leading by only one point going into Bradley's match, and had Bradley lost to Hammond, Cornell would have won the meet.
Ranked No. 1 at 165 pounds, Cornell's Mack Lewnes did not wrestle against MU junior Nick Marable. Marable has defeated Lewnes three times dating back to last season, all by a score of 3-2. In Sunday's match, Marable defeated John Basting 4-1.
This marks the first time in three years that Missouri has won at least 15 duals in one season.
