Women's gymnastics preview
For the start of the 2009-2010 season, GymInfo’s 2010 Preseason Coaches Poll blessed the Tigers as No. 16 in the country. The Tigers also will have plenty of opportunities to prove they deserve the rank.
Missouri will face six top-25 squads during the regular season, including four Big 12 opponents: Oklahoma (No. 9), Nebraska (No. 15), Iowa State (No. 23). The other ranked teams are LSU (No. 6), Illinois (No. 13), and Ohio State (No. 18). Kentucky, Arizona State, and New Hampshire are other teams on the Tigers schedule who also received votes for the top 25.
Along with being ranked No. 16, four recruits signed national letters of intent to join the Tigers for the 2010-2011 season.
Cathryn Aliceaacosta is from Houston and, according to head coach Rob Drass, will immediately improve the Tigers in the vault, beam and floor exercise. Her bests on those events are 9.725 on vault, 9.55 on beam, and 9.625 on floor.
Britton, Mich., native Taylor Medrea’s strength is on the bars. Her 9.875 score on the event coupled with the fact she won the Level 10 State and Regional bars title twice makes her a strong addition for the Tigers.
Hailing from New Lennox, Ill., Brittani Price is a consistent performer on all four events. She sports personal high scores of 9.775 on vault, 9.6 on bars, 9.5 on beam, 9.6 on floor and 37.9 in the all-around.
