Gymnastics continues road success
Whether the schedule leads it east or west, the women’s gymnastics team has had no trouble winning on the road so far this season. The team claimed a victory in the desert at Arizona State last month, and on Saturday it added Columbus, Ohio to its list of road triumphs.
In its first quad meet of the season, No. 13 Missouri (3-1, 1-1 Big 12) posted its highest team score yet (195.375) and disposed of No. 15 Illinois (194.575), No. 26 Michigan State (194.500) and No. 14 Ohio State (193.825).
Once again, junior Sarah Shire put up a solid performance for the Tigers. It was Shire who claimed the top spot in the all-around, her third such title on the season. Freshman Mary Burke took third in the all-around, while senior Adrianne Perry finished right behind her in fourth.
Missouri has made it a perfect 3-0 so far outside of Columbia, and the Tigers now depart from that difficult part of the schedule to enjoy some more time at the Hearnes Center. While three of the first four meets of this season were on the road, the trend reverses in February as the Tigers get three home meets in the next four weeks.
First up for Missouri is a date with SEMO this Friday before it welcomes familiar-foe Illinois on February 13 for the Beauty and the Beast meet.
