Women's basketball searching for a change
Following a loss to Oklahoma State, coach Cindy Stein promised changes. On Saturday against the No. 2 Oklahoma Sooners, freshman forward Christine Flores earned her first start of the season. However, the results were pretty similar, with the Tigers losing 78-56.
The Tigers have now lost four in a row to Big 12 rivals, and sit at 10-10 overall, but just 1-6 in the conference. Things are not going to get any easier for MU. On Wednesday, the team travels to Kansas State to take on the No. 18 Wildcats.
In order to be successful, Missouri must overcome the shooting inconsistencies that have plagued them all season. But Kansas State will surely have something to say about that, as it is holding opponents to just 49.8 points per game. Even more, the Wildcats have yet to lose at home this year.
It is not as if the Tigers are getting blown out every game. Recent games against the Colorado Buffaloes and the Cowgirls have come down to the final minutes. The problem Missouri seems to face is holding a lead for the full 40 minutes. Stein has even admitted that the team needs to learn “how to win the big game.”
A victory over the Wildcats would definitely be a step in the right direction, and would give confidence to a team that is lacking it.
