Swimming hosts Last Chance Meet
About half a day after the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships wrapped up, a handful of Missouri swimmers took to the pool again, this time for the Last Chance Meet.
The meet was the final opportunity to post NCAA Championship-qualifying times and Missouri, joined by a handful of other schools, tried one last time to qualify more swimmers.
Freshman Logan Sutton fell short of a NCAA “B” cut in the 50 yard freestyle time trial with his time of 22.04. The Nebraska native was just over two seconds behind the cut time of 20.02.
Although she posted a “B” cut time at the conference championships Thursday night, freshman Lisa Nathanson tried to lower her 50 yard freestyle time on Sunday.
Participating in both the prelims and time trials, Nathanson failed to bring her time below 23 seconds and will hope that her 22:74 at the Big 12’s will earn her a spot at the national championship.
Sophomore David Dorak swam in the 100 yard butterfly prelims and time trials with a faster prelim time of 48.51. Even the faster time, though, fell short of the “B” cut by less than a second.
The three other Missouri swimmers to participate in the meet were freshman Leah Cowperthwaite in the 50 yard freestyle, Emy DiBenigno in the 100 yard butterfly and freshman Max Kerwick in the 200 yard freestyle.
None posted qualifying times.
