Gymnastics prepares for NCAA's
As the dust settles after No. 15 Missouri’s third place finish at the Big 12 Championships, the Tigers now have about two weeks to prepare for their April 4th NCAA Regional meet.
While the Tigers hit the mats in preparation for the rest of the postseason, a handful of gymnasts have scooped up some recognition from the Big 12.
Behind a school-record ten all-around titles, junior Sarah Shire was named Big 12 Co-Gymnast of the Year and also gathered the Big 12 Gymnast of the Week award after Missouri’s March 13th victory over Oregon State.
Shire garnered six such awards during the season and her total was the most of any Big 12 gymnast.
Shire, who won the all-around and tied for first in vault and balance beam at the Big 12’s, also picked up three positions on the All-Big 12 team.
Earning more spots than any other Big 12 gymnast, the Columbia native was named to the vault, uneven parallel bars and balance beam teams.
Senior Adrianne Perry also picked up all-conference honors. Perry received her first nod for floor exercise after being named to the vault and bars teams last season.
She went on to validate her selection by winning the floor exercise at the conference championships.
Perry also earned a spot on the academic all-conference first team and was joined by five of her teammates.
For the third year in a row senior Alicia Hatcher was named to the squad in addition to juniors Brooke Boehmer and Becky Scholle and sophomore Lauren Stephenson.
Sophomore Alex Gold landed a spot on the second team.
