Missouri sends two Tigers to nationals
The national stage awaits senior Adrianne Perry and junior Sarah Shire as they prepare for this week’s NCAA National Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska. Both Tiger gymnasts compete for the all-around title in what will be the first time in program history that Missouri sends two gymnasts to the meet.
Perry’s appearance at nationals will also be historic because she will become the first Tiger to compete in the meet all four years. Prior to this season, no other Tiger had made more than three appearances at nationals.
As for Shire, she looks to continue her season-long dominance in the all-around and add another title to her school-record ten earned in 2009. The junior punched her ticket to the national championships after placing second in the all-around at the Northeast Regional on April 4. It will be Shire’s first appearance at the NCAA’s.
Both Shire and Perry will compete starting on Thursday at 1 p.m. in Session I of the competition. Since they are competing as individuals, Shire, the No. 2 seed in the all-around field, will rotate with top-seed Georgia while Perry will rotate with Florida, according to a Missouri press release.
If If either Tiger gymnasts finish in the top four in their session, they will advance to the Individual Event Finals on Saturday at 6 p.m.
