Two gymnasts head to National Championships
While Missouri left the NCAA Northeast Regional without qualifying as a team for the National Championships, the Tigers didn’t go out empty handed.
Junior Sarah Shire (39.450) and senior Adrianne Perry (39.350) punched their tickets to the NCAA National Championships by finishing second and fourth in the all-around, respectively.
Perry’s trip to nationals will be a historic one, as she becomes the first Tiger gymnast ever to qualify for the championships all four years.
Shire, who tallied a school-record ten all-around wins this season, will be making her first trip to the NCAA’s. To top it all off, she was named Regional Gymnast of the Year.
As for the team itself, its score of 196.000 was the highest Missouri has posted in 22 regional meets but still wasn’t enough to overcome No. 3 Alabama and No. 9 Oklahoma.
The Crimson Tide took first in the meet with a score of 197.000 while Oklahoma took second with 196.600. With their finishes, both squads earned bids.
While Missouri lost to Oklahoma for the third time in as many meets this year, the Tigers did finish ahead of Central Michigan, New Hampshire and Maryland in the standings.
The NCAA National Championships will be held in Lincoln, Nebraska starting on April 16.
