Two Tiger throwers earn All-American status

On June 12, Missouri’s quest for a Track and Field Outdoor National Championship came to a halt in soggy Fayetteville, Arkansas, but the Tigers did not return home empty handed.

Seniors Chris Rohr and Krishna Lee were both recipients of All-American titles, increasing Missouri’s collection of All-American track and field hardware to three for the season.

Despite wet conditions forcing a four-hour delay, Lee’s first and best toss in the women’s hammer throw (206 ft., seven in.) proved to be the fifth longest of the finals and also the best among Big 12 participants.

Her efforts earned her a third All-American title, though it was her first awarded in outdoor track and field. She also is Missouri’s current record holder in the women’s hammer throw and indoor shot put.

Instead of his first attempt being his best, Rohr’s last throw was his strongest. Measuring 226 feet, six inches, Rohr’s fourth heave was good enough for fourth place in the men’s hammer and his fourth All-American award. He also holds the Missouri records in men’s hammer and weight throw.

Other notable performances included junior pole vaulter Brian Hancock, who finished 11th, clearing the starting height of 16 feet, 8.75 inches and senior Kaela Rorvig, who accumulated 4997 points and finished 20th in the Heptathlon.
