Missouri women's basketball struggling in the second half
The Missouri women’s basketball team continued Big 12 play with a 65-60 loss to Kansas State on Jan. 14. Although the Tigers played a strong game, the shots kept falling for the Wildcats during the second half and the Tigers were never able to catch up.
The Tigers grabbed the lead going into halftime but ultimately let Kansas State take the lead five minutes into the second half. This was the second-straight game in which the Tigers let their opponents take a healthy lead in the second half. Missouri was unable to recover after dropping their Big 12 opener to Colorado by a score of 64-48.
The Tigers cut it close during Thursday’s game but still fell short. Earlier in the season, the team had a problem playing strong in the second half, allowing opponents to make a comeback offensively.
However, as nonconference play dwindled to a close, the Tigers appeared to have solved their second half woes. As conference games have begun, Missouri has once again struggled in the second half offensively, finding it difficult to catch up once its opponent has taken the lead.
If the Tigers are going to compete with the rest of the Big 12, they must be able to perform better in the second half once again. The Big 12 is one of the toughest conferences in the NCAA, and Missouri must be able to compete for a full 40 minutes in order to achieve success during conference play.
