Missouri athletics inducts 20th class into hall of fame
Missouri athletics honors some important figures in its history this weekend. The Mizzou Athletics Hall of Fame will induct three players, a broadcaster and the 1964 baseball team into its 20th class.
All were honored at the Holiday Inn Select on Friday night and will be recognized at halftime of the Missouri men’s basketball game against Nebraska Saturday evening.
This year’s class includes:
Jim Johnson-The native of Maywood, Il., played football at MU from 1960 to 1962 and was the Tigers’ starting quarterback his senior season. Johnson passed away last July but not before establishing himself as one of the best defensive coaches in the NFL. He coached in the pros for 22 years and was the defensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999 to 2008.
Ryan Fry-Dominating on the diamond from 1995 to 1998, Fry’s offensive prowess has his name all over the Missouri record books. He was named a second-team All-American in 1998.
Amanda Lassiter-Despite only playing two seasons for Missouri, Lassiter etched herself as a Tiger great by leading MU to the Sweet Sixteen in 2001 and nabbing 40 wins over the two seasons. The second-team All-American was taken in the first round of the WNBA draft.
Sandie Prophete- The New Jersey native played basketball at MU from 1986 to 1989 and was an honorable mention All-American. Her work in basketball continued after her career and she is currently working with youth on behalf of the Harlem Ambassadors.
Mahlon Aldridge-Calling basketball and football games at Missouri for more than two and half decades, Alridge was also involved with the creation of the Tiger Radio Network.
1964 Baseball Team- The Tigers stomped to a Big Eight title with a 19-0 conference mark and 27-5-1 overall record and finished the year as national runner-up.
