Well-rested Missouri tennis team to start busy week Tuesday
After splitting a doubleheader on the road last weekend, the Missouri women’s tennis team has a bit of time off before jumping back into an action-packed schedule. Next week, the Tigers will begin a three-match, six-day home stand at the Green Tennis Center.
On Tuesday, the Tigers will host Saint Louis University in a previously scheduled match that was cancelled due to inclement weather. The Billikens are coming to Columbia with some momentum. The team has won three-straight including its most recent match against Eastern Illinois Feb. 5 in which the Billikens won 4-3 despite playing shorthanded.
On Friday, Louisville will visit the Green Tennis Center. The Tigers’ first Big East opponent of the year, Louisville will serve as a litmus test for how Missouri can compete with a team from one of the major conferences. The Cardinals will take on DePaul this weekend before beginning preparation for the Tigers in the upcoming week.
The Tigers will close out the home stand with a Sunday morning match against Southern Methodist University. The Mustangs are off to a hot start with a 10-1 record and a No. 30 national ranking. In its most recent contest, SMU defeated No. 23 Texas Christian University in a decisive 7-0 victory. The Mustangs will take on Louisville in Columbia on Saturday before facing the Tigers on Sunday.
The Tigers will enter the week well rested. Missouri’s most recent contests took place last Saturday in Minneapolis against Milwaukee-Wisconsin and Minnesota. After defeating Milwaukee-Wisconsin earlier in the day by a score of 7-0, the Tigers found themselves on the losing end of a 6-1 contest against Minnesota. Once again, freshman Maria Chistensen proved to be a bright spot for Missouri as the only player to win both her singles matches.
