Adcock has career day at Missouri Collegiate Challenge

The Missouri track and field team finished its home indoor season Friday hosting the Missouri Collegiate Challenge at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse.

Senior Nick Adcock had a record-breaking day as he broke his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles and set a personal best in the pole vault. Adcock, who has already qualified for the NCAA Championships in the heptathlon, ran a 7.92 in the 60-meter hurdles, topping his previous best time of 7.99. The time was one hundredth of a second off the provisional NCAA Championship qualifying time. The senior from Kansas City cleared a height of 15 feet, 7 inches in the pole vault.

The Tigers also had a successful day in the thrower's circle as their athletes took the first five spots in the men's weight throw. Chris Rohr, a former Tiger who was competing unattached, had the top mark of the day with a throw of 23.26 meters.

The Missouri women also had a successful day in the weight throw, with sophomore Melissa Coil finishing second with a throw of 16.96 meters.

Sophomore Leslie Farmer clocked a personal-best time of 56.21 in the 400-meter dash to run away with the event title. Farmer was the only runner in the field to clock a time less than a minute. She also moved herself closer to joining redshirt junior Lana Mims as the second Missouri athlete to qualify provisionally for the NCAA Championships in the event.

Freshman Katie Evans was the women's top shot putter with a throw of 14.77 meters. Freshmen Evan Scott and Marcus Ferguson claimed the top two spots in the triple jump on a day when the Tigers shined in the horizontal jumps.

The Tigers dominated the meet, winning 10 event titles competing against many small schools from all over Missouri. Missouri's other NCAA automatic qualifier, senior Shannon Leinert in the 800-meter run, did not compete as she is resting up for the Big 12 Indoor Championships on Feb. 26 in Ames, Iowa.
