The Missouri women’s basketball team entered the Big 12 Tournament on a positive note after defeating Texas Tech 58-55 in overtime on Sunday.

However, any good feelings ended on Thursday after it lost to fifth-seeded Texas 64-59 in Kansas City. The Tigers led 29-28 after one half, but fell in the final minute of the game. Senior forward Amanda Hanneman scored a game-high 21 points in her final game in a Tiger uniform, and senior forward Jessra Johnson scored 11 points.

It was also the final game for coach Cindy Stein, who earlier this month announced she would resign at the end of the season.

Missouri finished the season with a record of 12-18 along with a regular season conference record of 2-14, tying the record for the worst conference record in the team’s history.

With the departure of Stein from the head coach position, it will be interesting to see who will become the next head coach of the Tigers, as well as how he or she will recruit the class of 2014.

During Stein’s press conference regarding her resignation on March 2, Athletics Director Mike Alden talked about how he hoped the new coach would recruit within the state of Missouri.

Although much of the roster is made up of members from Missouri, Alden talked about how many of the state’s top players ultimately made commitments to out-of-state schools and bypassed MU.

The Tigers still have bright spots in players such as junior guard RaeShara Brown and sophomore forward Christine Flores, who both established themselves as dependable forces for the Tigers.

After this season, there is nowhere to go but up for Missouri.
