Shire finds herself at the top of the rankings
The No. 14 Tigers (10-3) suffered a defeat at the hands of No. 13 Illinois (9-7) last Saturday in Champaign, Ill., 196.200-195.500.
Despite the loss, Tigers senior Sarah Shire earned her 21st career all-around title with a 39.550 score. Shire’s performance catapulted her into the No 1. national ranking in the all-around according to GymInfo.
GymInfo also listed Shire in the top-20 in all the other events. Shire is tied for 16th on vault and is fifth on uneven bars, fourth on balance beam and 10th on floor exercise.
Shire and the Tigers now look ahead to Centenary College (0-7) on March 21st.
The Tigers have already defeated Centenary once this season, on the road back in February.
For this encounter, seniors Brooke Boehmer, Danielle Guider, Becky Scholle and Shire will be honored in their last career home meet.
Boehmer was a beam specialist for the Tigers during her career and her career-high in the event is 9.875, achieved against Illinois last season.
In her first three seasons, Guider competed mainly on three events. After ankle surgery in the summer, Guider made her all-around debut this season, and earned a career high score of 39.275 this year.
Scholle served the Tigers on bars and vault her four years and recorded career highs of 9.850 on uneven bars and 9.825 on vault.
Shire has broken career marks in every event this season with the lowest being a 9.925 on vault. She also holds the Missouri record on floor with 9.975.
Shire’s career-high in the all-around of 39.725 is a Missouri record, and this season she broke the career record for Big 12 Gymnast of the Week awards with 13.
