Missouri softball not only team in Big 12 off to hot start
After a very successful weekend, the Tigers finally return home for the first time this season.
Missouri will participate in the Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament this weekend, starting off a 16-game home stretch. Starting off the season with a tough schedule, this home stand looks to be a bit easier for the Tigers. The combined record of the Tiger’s four opponents in the tournament is 10-25, and Missouri’s all-time record against the four teams is 153-19.
Looking toward conference play, there are currently six teams in the Big 12 that are nationally ranked. The Tigers were ranked No. 2 behind Oklahoma in the preseason Big 12 coaches poll. The Sooners are ranked No. 8 nationally, five spots behind the No. 3 Tigers. The two teams meet in Missouri’s conference opener on March 27.
Elsewhere in the Big 12, Texas Tech is off to a hot start, compiling a 13-1 record to start the season. However, the Red Raiders have yet to be tested, with all of their victories coming against unranked opponents.
No. 25 Baylor is also a major player in the Big 12, but it has been hit with a series of tough games early this season. After suffering one-run losses to No. 2 Arizona, No. 14 Louisville, and No. 17 Ohio State, the Bears look to regroup in conference play, opening against Oklahoma State on March 27.
The Tiger’s kick off the Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament March 5 at 3:30 p.m. against St. Louis.
